Position Details

General Statement

The Accounting Associate III primarily performs accounting, reconciling, reporting and collection functions for the University’s Accounts Receivable. The person in this position records incoming wire transfers, manages Perkins loans and third party payer accounts, and works with student-borrowers on repayment. This position also assists with financial reporting and billing for the University’s restricted grants, prints payroll checks, and assists with general office coverage.
The Business Office strives to partner with Academics and Administration to enable MSU-Northern to achieve the goals specified in its mission statement. The Business Office is accountable for overseeing all financial activity of the University. We will strive to provide the highest quality of service to our students, the University community, prospective students, and vendors.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Manages the billing, reporting and collecting of student and non-student receivables including third party billing, tax offset, monthly invoicing and reconciliations.
2. Assist with accounting and reporting functions of the restricted grant accounts – reviewing grant agreements, drawing funds, expenditure reporting. Responsible for recording and disbursing incoming wire transfers.
3. Perkins Loans – reconcile accounts with loan servicing agency, submit new loans, update servicer records and counsel borrowers on repayment, deferment, and cancellation. Prepare FISAP report for Perkins Loans and AOR report for Nursing Loans.
4. Prints and runs payroll processes monthly for checks and direct deposits. Assist with the Bookstore’s book buyback program and makes bank deposit runs daily.
5. Serve as back-up cashier in absence of lead cashier (collect cash and other payments, reconcile cash drawer daily, complete bank deposits).
6. Assists with general office coverage including customer service and other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

1. Associate Degree in related field and at least three years office experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Experience organizing and planning work effectively with minimal supervision.
3. Experience and knowledge working with a variety of computer programs.
4. Knowledge and experience with accounting/bookkeeping principles.
5. Demonstrated excellent communication and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
2. Working knowledge of the Banner system.
3. Experience working with A/R and grants/contracts.
